The members of Winchester Symphony Orchestra are a friendly group of widely differing ages and backgrounds. We meet to rehearse every Monday evening between September and March in Winchester, Hampshire.

Our main concerts are usually in November and March and are usually held in New Hall, Winchester College. Our concert programmes have included some rarely played pieces as well as the popular ones.

In May 2014 the orchestra ran a successful Young Soloists' Concerto Competition. This was repeated as part of the Winchester Festival in July 2016 and again in Romsey in 2018. Rehearsals for the next Young Soloists' Competition will be in June 2020.

The social side of the orchestra is important too: we regularly migrate either to the Black Boy or the Wykeham Arms after rehearsals. Many of the orchestra play chamber music throughout the year.

We welcome and encourage new members, particularly experienced string players and trumpets. If you are interested, please contact our secretary. If there is a vacancy you will be invited to play in the orchestra for a couple of rehearsals as a means of audition.
