Next Concert

Barnados FlyerOur next concert, on Saturday 15th May 2010 is an afternoon performance in aid of Barnardo's, at the United Church, Winchester (see map).

We are delighted again to welcome Francis Wells as guest conductor. Francis is well-known to the orchestra, as a long-standing supporter and former musical director.

The programme is:

Schubert Overture to 'Rosamunde', D644
Haydn Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No 1 in C (excerpts)
Mozart Serenade No 10 in B flat, 'Gran Partita', K361 (excerpts)
Bizet Symphony in C (excerpts)

Next Concert

AlexanderSitkovetskyOur next concert will take place on Saturday 27th March 2010. The programme is:

Beethoven Symphony No 3 in E flat, 'Eroica', Op. 55
Elgar Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in B minor, Op. 61

The conductor is Nicholas Wilks, the soloist in the Elgar is the acclaimed young violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky.

The concert will take place in the St Swithun's Performing Arts Centre, Winchester at 19:30 (doors open 19:00).

Tickets are on sale now via our online box office.

Next Concert

Our next concert will take place on Saturday 14th November 2009. The programme is:

Mendelssohn The Hebrides, Overture, Op 26
Mozart Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A, K622
Schubert Symphony No 9 in C, 'Great', D944

The conductor is Nicholas Wilks. We are delighted to announce that David Campbell has kindly agreed to be the soloist in the concerto.

The concert will be at Thornden Hall (see map), Chandlers Ford at 19:30 (doors open 19:00).

We expect tickets to go on sale shortly.

New Concert Venues

Next season we will be holding our concerts in new venues while refurbishment work is carried out in New Hall.

We are very much looking forward to performing in two highly regarded local concert venues, both of which will offer our audiences excellent facilities and great acoustics. Each venue is easily accessible for all members of our audience, with on-site parking available.

Thornden Hall The concert on Saturday 14th November 2009 will be held in Thornden Hall, Chandlers Ford.


St Swithuns Performing Arts CentreThe concert on Saturday 27th March 2010 will be held in St Swithun’s Performing Arts Centre, Winchester.

Charity Concert

Peter and the WolfOur next concert,  on Saturday 9th May 2009 is an afternoon performance of light music in aid of the Winchester Live at Home Scheme, at the United Church, Winchester (see map).

We are delighted to welcome Francis Wells as guest conductor. Francis is well-known to the orchestra, as a long-standing supporter and former musical director.

The programme includes:

Bruch Romance for Viola and Orchestra in F, Op. 85
Coates Dambusters March
Godfrey Lucy Long, Song with Original Variations for Bassoon & Orchestra
Britten Soirées Musicales (from Rossini), Op. 9
Handel Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, from 'Solomon'
Prokofiev Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67

Live at HomeWe have again chosen the Winchester Live at Home Scheme as the beneficiary of our charity concert. The aim of this group is to recruit, train and equip volunteers to provide support and friendship to older people in Winchester who still live in their own homes and may have become isolated and lonely for whatever reason. The Winchester scheme was established in July 2000 and now provides a friendship club, an exercise group, a lunch club, one-to-one support, help with shopping and telephone support, as well as a range of outings.
