Next Concert - 23 March 2013

Our next concert will take place on Saturday 23rd March 2013.Antonin Dvorak

The concert will be conducted by our musical director, Nicholas Wilks, and will take place in our home venue of New Hall, Winchester College.

The exciting programme is:

Antonín Dvořák The Noon Witch Based on a tale by Karel Jaromír Erben, this tone-poem takes its title from a frightening figure in Bohemian folklore whose prey was small children.
Mussorgsky arr. Rimsky-Korsakov Night on the Bare Mountain Mussorgsky's Bald Mountain depicts a witches' sabbath on a Ukrainian mountain-top, and was orchestrated after his death by his friend Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
Antonín Dvořák Symphony no. 5 in F major A pastoral, folkloric symphony but with a rousing brassy conclusion.

The City of Southampton Orchestra kicks off its new 2012-2013 season with a flourish. The concert on Saturday 3rd November, 7.30pm, at Thornden Hall, Chandler’s Ford features an all American programme and is conducted by Principal Conductor, John Traill.
Bernstein's exuberant and brassy Candide Overture is followed by Gershwin's bluesey Piano Concert in F, played by Making Music recommended artist John Paul Ekins. The concert concludes with Copland's wonderful Symphony No. 3, which uses the well-known Fanfare For The Common Man as the main theme of the final movement.
There will be a pre-concert talk by conductor John Traill at 6.45pm – free to ticket holders.
A concert not to be missed!

Our next concert will take place on Saturday 24th November 2012.JohannesBrahms

The concert has a delightful all-Brahms programme. For the Piano Concerto no. 2, the orchestra will be joined by Roger Owens. We have played with Roger several times before, and it is always a treat.

The second half of the concert is Brahms's much-loved Symphony no. 2.

The concert will be conducted by our musical director, Nicholas Wilks, and will take place in our home venue of New Hall, Winchester College.
