Joining the Orchestra

E-mail Print

The members of Winchester Symphony Orchestra are a friendly group of widely differing ages and backgrounds. We meet to rehearse every Monday evening between September and March in Winchester, Hampshire.

Our main concerts are usually in November and March and are usually held in New Hall, Winchester College. Our concert programmes have included some rarely played pieces as well as the popular ones.

In 2014 the orchestra ran a successful Young Musician’s Concerto Competition, and this will be repeated as part of the Winchester Festival in July 2016. Rehearsals for this are in June.

The social side of the orchestra is important too – we regularly migrate either to the Black Boy or the Wykeham Arms after rehearsals. Many of the orchestra play chamber music throughout the year.

We welcome and encourage new members, particularly experienced string players. If you are interested, please contact our secretary. If there is a vacancy you will be invited to play in the orchestra for a couple of rehearsals as a means of audition.
